Getting Started

General information can be found on the Triofox website.

Introduction

Triofox extends existing file servers with mobile access, secure file sharing, business continuity and data migration. Triofox integrates with the local Active Directory to automatically discover all existing file server shares, and administrators can publish them as file server shares for Internet access.

Triofox saves organizations from VPN hassles and allows employees to access local file server shares over the Internet without a VPN. This significantly improves VPN performance, as Triofox offloads file access via an alternative HTTPS route. You can also use Triofox to offload file access in a hosted application environment, increasing the scalability of hosted remote desktops.

The solution also addresses enterprise concerns about security, privacy, compliance, and control. Triofox puts the responsibility for data and security back on IT while meeting the productivity needs of an increasingly mobile workforce.

Overview

The following guides describe how to install and configure Gladinet's Triofox server. They include step-by-step installation and configuration instructions and best practices.

Triofox runs on a Windows server platform and includes Windows, macOS, and mobile client applications for iOS and Android devices.

Benefits

Triofox benefits include:

  • Existing file servers do not need to be moved or migrated to the cloud. This saves you time during implementation.

  • File access traffic is routed via an alternative HTTPS route. This reduces VPN and hosted terminal session costs and increases scalability.

  • Since no data migration is required, this also means data sovereignty, data ownership, and data within your country's borders.

  • Drive mapping, file locking, and folder permission functions are preserved for end users. So no additional training is required, saving you time and money.

  • Your file server is enhanced with advanced web-based file access and sharing capabilities. So your field workers do not need to use another cloud solution, reducing data sprawl.

Other features include versioning, file locking, audit trace, file change log, single sign-on, 2-factor authentication, backup, and migration to a private or public cloud.

Technology

Triofox Server software is based on the Microsoft Web Platform:

  • Windows Server

  • IIS (Internet Information Server)

  • .NET Framework and ASP.NET

  • WCF (Windows Communication Foundation)

  • PostgreSQL, MySQL or Microsoft SQL Server

Prerequisites

Before installing Triofox in your environment, make sure you meet all system requirements.

System Requirements:

Triofox should be installed on a clean Windows Server machine. It is recommended not to install Triofox on a machine that already has other application software installed. It is also recommended not to install Triofox on a domain controller. Server Core installations are not supported.

Supported Operating Systems:

Standard and Datacenter versions of Windows Server are supported.

  • Windows Server 2022
  • Windows Server 2019
  • Windows Server 2016
  • Windows 10/11 (only for proof of concept or small pilots with less than 10 users)

Supported CPU

  • 64-bit Intel or AMD x64 architecture
  • 2 - virtual CPUs minimum (4 - virtual CPUs or more are recommended)

Memory

  • 8GB RAM minimum (16 GB or more is preferred)

Hard Disk Space

  • 100 GB minimum, preferably SSD. This assumes that the backend file storage is not located on the Triofox server itself.

Domain Join

It is not necessary for the Triofox server to join the Active Directory domain for Active Directory integration to work. However, if you plan to have the Triofox server work with an Active Directory domain, it is recommended to join the Triofox server to the Active Directory domain before installation to ensure the smoothest user experience.
